How much does web scraping cost? A plain price guide
Published
The short answer: a simple one-time scrape of a single website usually starts around $30. Bigger jobs and ongoing monitoring cost more, and the price depends on a few things you can predict before you ask for a quote.
What changes the price
How the site is built. A plain page that shows all the data in the HTML is quick. A site that loads data with JavaScript, hides it behind a search form or blocks automated visitors takes longer to build a scraper for.
How many records you need. A list of 500 products is a small job. 200,000 products across many categories needs more careful planning, batching and checking.
How many fields. Name and price is simple. Name, price, every variant, five images and the full description per product means more work per row.
Cleaning. Raw scraped data is often messy. Fixing date formats, merging duplicates or matching your Shopify template adds time, but saves you far more time later.
One-time or repeated. A recurring scrape needs to keep working when the site changes, so it is priced monthly.
Typical price ranges
| Job | Example | Typical range |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 1 simple site, up to about 1,000 rows | $30 to $60 |
| Medium | 1 to 3 sites, a few thousand rows, cleaning included | $60 to $200 |
| Large | Many sites or more than 50,000 rows | Custom quote |
| Ongoing | Daily or weekly price or stock monitoring | From $60 per month |
These are my own ranges as a freelance scraper. Agencies and software tools price differently, but the same factors apply.
How to get an accurate quote quickly
Send three things:
- The link to the website, or a page that shows the data.
- The fields you want, or a screenshot with them circled.
- Roughly how many records you expect and how often you need them.
With that I can usually give you a fixed price within the hour and a free sample within a day.
Is it cheaper to do it myself?
If you need a few hundred rows once, a browser extension or copying by hand may be enough. Once you need thousands of rows, clean formatting or regular updates, paying for a scraper is usually cheaper than the hours it saves.
